Cosmetic Lotro

Fire flowers

What many people don’t realize is that during the Anniversary festival, you can collect a large number of very unique cosmetic items. Not just the ones you have to barter for, but the ones that drop from all the Anniversary boxes as well. Many of these look like items that we encounter in other places in the game, but all have a slight variation. This tunic for example, may look the same as the tunic from Rivendell that you can barter for at kindred reputation, but in stead this one is short-sleeved, where the Rivendell one is long sleeved. The same way you will find many dresses and tunic & pants that are short-sleeved or sleeveless. To the untrained eye these look like common items, but the contrary is true. Funny detail for example is that there is a sleeveless dress called “common dress”, which in fact is very uncommon! So if you’re a cosmetics collector like me, now is your chance to browse the Auction House and gather all those hauberks, dresses and tunics that are only available from Anniversary boxes! Look for anything named “short-sleeved”, “sleeveless” or “fine” and check Darzil’s excellent guide to help you along.

On a second note my luck finally turned and I looted a Lossoth Steed on my main character! I suddenly feel very lucky now! I have no idea if I get to see the Dusk-warden Steed as well, but we still have another 10 festival days to go, so there’s still hope! The envelope quest is the most fun to do, so I don’t mind repeating it on my 15 alts at all!
Which reminds me about the Lotro lottery that sometimes includes cosmetic rewards. I found a Circlet of Men on the Auction House that obviously has different origins than the ones we know from the starter boxes because this one can be dyed! Judging by the icon which has a slightly different white border, I suspect this one comes from the Lottery. Having a circlet that can be dyed is amazing!
However the grand disappointment of Update 6.1 is that Rune-keeper satchels suddenly became undyeable. I suspect someone was messing with the dye code for the satchels in the Lotro store, because even those ones lost their famous turquoise colour in the preview window. All satchels are now washed and cannot be dyed directly nor through the wardrobe. I mean, the one time that I actually could have used the turquoise default colour, it’s gone!!

If you want to know where a certain armour piece or cosmetic comes from, you can look it up on Lotro Wiki, by typing its name into the search box. You can equip any piece of armour cosmetically through the wardrobe, even armour that is not meant for your class or level.

Chest: Short-sleeved Elven Tunic and Trousers, orange dye (Anniversary boxes, cosmetic)
Shoulders: Shoulders of the Helmingas, default dye (RoI pre-order, cosmetic)
Head: Circlet of Men, orange dye (Lottery, cosmetic)
Back: Firework Hoodless Cloak, turquoise dye (Anniversary Festival barter, cosmetic)

  1. Wow, the elven tunic combines so nicely with the fireworks cloak, great job!

My big question about the gift boxes is whether that blasted “Short Elven Robe” is available this year. I sure hope so, but I’ve been through a lot of boxes so far to no avail! :(

      • I can confirm first hand now that the Short Elven Robe drops from boxes. It dropped for me from a Westfold tier box (Calenard Tokens). From that level box a few Elven Circlets and a Short Sleeved Elven Dress dropped as well.

Beautiful photos!!! I really like the 2nd and 3rd ones.

I’m not able to attend much this year =(
But I’m enjoying what little time I have gotten at the festival.

I come here often via my subscription to check out the cosmetic idea – and great photos.

Those first four shots are great – how did you manage to time them so well with both the actions AND fireworks? I can’t turn my UI off fast enough to get the right positions on my action shots! :P

    • The fireworks in the sky are not lit by my runekeeper! She wouldn’t be able to manage lighting up all those colours and still make a pose, lol! The fireworks are from the evening fireworks event in Bree, lit by the many hobbits, dwarves and other folk that come to enjoy the show.

I’m not a huge fan of the tunics and pants due to their 3/4 pants on humans and elves, and I’m also not keen on the red element in this particular one (the only reason I’m yet to get it from the Rivendell rep), however I love the sheen and the turquoise colour. You’ve done well making it work here!
