The Dúnedain (singular: Dúnadan) were a race of Men descended from the Númenóreans. In the Fourth Age, the Dúnedain of Gondor and Arnor were reunited under King Aragorn II Elessar. The Dúnedain were superior to other Men in nobility of spirit and body, although they were still capable of evil if corrupted. The Dúnedain of the North, also known as the Rangers of the North, ceaselessly patrolled the boundaries of Eriador and were by necessity skilled with the sword, bow and spear.
The screenshots in this post were taken in Mirkwood and therefore typically dark and shaded. I chose not to brighten them up as I think the atmosphere fits the Rangers of the North quite well. The rangers operated from the shadows and were dressed in brown and grey colours.
Now that we have access to the Rise of Isengard quest reward armour pieces, we are finally seeing some more realistic ranger and hunter outfits. Especially in terms of boots, these medium leather boots are the best ranger boots I have ever seen.
In case anybody is wondering why I’m running around with a level 12 bow and daggers, I can only say that they are far more realistic than their shiny glitzy glam brothers of the Third Age. If only we had cosmetic weapons… sigh.
If you want to know where a certain armour piece or cosmetic comes from, you can look it up in the Lorebook, by typing its name into the search box.
